Step-by-step guide: Purchasing your domain names (and setting them up correctly)
Before you buy: Domain name do’s and don’ts
Do
-
Pick a .com (not a different extension).
-
Keep the name very specific to your niche.
-
Keep it as short as possible.
-
Use normal spellings (example: dog not dawg).
Don’t
-
Don’t use words that can be easily misinterpreted (like 4 / for / four).
-
Don’t use “and” in the domain name.
-
Don’t use confusing spellings, substitutes, or anything people might type wrong.
Step 1: Open the domain search page
-
Click the link in your reference: “Domain Names” (from “Watch How to purchase your domain names?”).
-
When the page opens, find the domain search box.
Step 2: Search and add your domains to the cart
-
In the search box, type the first domain you selected (exact spelling).
-
If it shows Available, click Add to Cart.
-
Repeat for your next domain:
-
Search → confirm Available → Add to Cart
-
-
Continue until all your domains are added.
Step 3: Go to checkout
-
Click your Cart (or “Checkout”).
-
Review that:
-
Each domain is spelled correctly
-
Each domain ends in .com
-
You have the right quantity of domains
-
Step 4: Choose your registration term (very important)
-
During checkout, choose how long you want to register each domain.
-
Recommendation:
-
Best: 10 years (if you can)
-
Minimum recommended: 3 years
Reason: search engines tend to give more value to domains registered for longer terms because it signals long-term intent/investment.
-
Step 5: Complete purchase and create your account
-
Enter your billing details.
-
Create your account login (username + password).
-
Place the order and confirm the purchase.
Step 6: Set your domain nameservers (DNS)
After purchase, set the domain to point to hosting by updating nameservers.
-
Log in to your domain account.
-
Go to Domain Management / DNS / Nameservers (wording varies).
-
Choose Custom Nameservers (or “Use custom”).
-
Enter these exactly:
-
ns1.host2685.com
-
ns2.host2685.com
-
ns3.host2685.com
-
Save/confirm changes.
Step 7: Confirm and send your login info to your coach (securely)
-
Once your account is set up and nameservers are updated, email your coach the:
-
Username
-
Password
-
-
They will log in to verify the settings.
Security note (recommended):
If possible, send the username/password using a secure method (password manager share, secure note, or text/call) rather than plain email.
